They told me about a lift problem on the way there on 22 August, even though I’d been guaranteed two times on the phone over the previous two and a half months and they could accommodate me with mobility problems. I was left totally stranded with two teenagers because I had booked two double rooms; it was my daughter’s 18th birthday and we had to stay in different hotels, which was devastating since I couldn’t see her on her birthday because the hotels were so far apart. I cried in my hotel all day – it was the worst experience of my life. I paid 971.56 on 13 August, they did put up my daughter, but after all the upset and inconvenience, especially not seeing my daughter on her 18th, they should have the decency to refund my money.

The setting and grounds are fabulous, with a beautiful river nearby. The room was well kept, tidy, and very nicely decorated, including the bathroom. The mattress was really comfy. Plenty of tea, coffee, and biscuits were provided. The staff were lovely and very helpful. The pub nearby was also great. I just prefer a thinner or flatter pillow; the ones provided were lovely and deep but a little too bulky for my neck.

The rooms and decor were lovely. We stayed in the family room and it was perfect for two children. The food at the restaurant was great as well. You have to walk through the restaurant with your luggage to get to the stairs, which isn’t ideal, but given it’s a very old building there isn’t much they can do about it.

The location is just 5 minutes from Alton Towers. The Thai restaurant was unbelievably tasty.
