“Sleeping in until 8 am and opening the curtains to a picture postcard view was stunning.”
Usually we need a holiday from a holiday, but Hiru Beach Resort gave us that break. The balcony views of morning & evening light are spectacular with the local fishing boats coming and going to sea, and it’s the perfect place to catch up on emails and the neglected book. The staff were great, the fresh tasty local food was great, the sound of the ocean was great, the pool area was great and the many colourful flower arrangements were great. We hired a scooter less than 5 minutes walk away to ride the back streets to Kalpitiya for a mango lassie and simosa one afternoon which you guessed it… was great. It may be a little remote for some, but we will always remember how welcome we felt there and for sure will return again one day. The 2026 cyclones that hit the area hard have given the locals character a good testing, but with their positive gentle nature and some tourist support this area will only bounce back.
