The address was wrong from the start, we arrived at a former church, and the priest was desperately asking for the address to be changed. The dormitory had 15 beds—far too many—old showers, and the reception was mixed.

The location was lovely and just far enough outside St Jean Pied du Port to stay quiet; the owners were lovely and helpful.

I always arrived too early, and the closing hours were a real hassle.

The spot was great for nearby bars and shops, but there were no towels, only plastic disposable sheets, drinks weren’t allowed in rooms, and you couldn’t wear shoes.
