The meals were very good, the staff were always happy to help, and the room was comfortable and clean. The gym was smaller than expected, a couple of things weren’t working, but the sauna was good.

Located in 25 acres of mature grounds, the Barony Castle Hotel is a stylish Scottish castle with an award-winning restaurant and modern leisure centre, situated on the edge of the Scottish Borders near Peeblesshire countryside. Elegant rooms feature satellite TV, tea/coffee facilities, and some offer scenic views of the Eddleston Hills. The hotel offers a sauna, whirlpool, fitness centre, and free parking, with nearby access to Peebles Golf Club and Glentress Forest.

The spot was great and the building had a real character with nice grounds and plenty of parking; the Map of Scotland in the garden and the view from our window were a highlight, and the bed was comfy. The buffet breakfast was generous. On the downside, the room had almost no information about Peebles or the nearby area, and the plastic leaflets looked out of place compared to the hotel’s supposed quality—heavier paper would have been better. The hallways, lift, and staircases seemed worn from frequent use by trolleys and bags. The floor in our second‑floor room was noisy, and sound insulation between rooms was poor, letting us hear other guests’ conversations and mumblings.

We had a fantastic experience at Barony Castle. The location is absolutely beautiful, surrounded by serene nature and offering that authentic, relaxing Scottish castle vibe. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and welcoming, and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive throughout our stay. It’s an ideal spot to unwind and a great base for exploring the area. Highly recommended; we would definitely love to come back!

The building and gardens were nice and the staff were lovely. The interior was very dated, not in a classy way, the showers were either too hot or freezing, food was expensive for what it was, and electrical cables were showing, needing retesting in 2013.

The outside from the hotel looks very nice. The dinner is reasonable okay, and so is breakfast. Also the staff was very helpful. Inside the place needs to be refurbished, looks dated/worn out wherever you are in the hotel. It also gives you zero impression from the inside that you are in a Castle environment, could be any hotel. The bathrooms are too old, paint coming off etc. needs to be redone. The bed in room 211 was terrible, I could feel the spirals coming through. The so called Leisure Club is in a poor state, better to close it for now. Overall disappointing stay for us
