Breakfast was great, the room was nice, and the piano bar was awesome. The spa, however, had no massages available – they claimed they were booked but nobody was actually getting a massage, and there was no hot tub.

The bathtub was the only feature. Cleanliness was terrible; the carpet in the rooms was so filthy you couldn’t walk on it barefoot. The bed was awful, the mattresses were cheap and very dirty. The room heating didn’t work and the blankets were too thin, so we were cold at night. The staff insisted on a cash city tax and we refused until they accepted card payment. They explicitly said the hotel isn’t responsible for items lost in the locked room, and one of ours was stolen with no proof. We couldn’t put a “don’t disturb” sign or request no cleaning; the staff entered automatically regardless. It feels shady how they charge for such poor quality and call themselves a cheap hotel. Avoid.

The calm, the bar, the SPA, and the room were all great.

I was glad we had a comfort room with a terrace; otherwise the standard room feels very cramped. Paying 250 euros per night and then an extra 25 euros per person for the pool and other facilities should have been included. Breakfast was fine on the picture, but every day the scrambled eggs were cold and poorly cooked, with a lot of yolk dripping onto the plate… not like what I'm used to in the Netherlands. The toiletries were available, but you had to ask at reception, which had very friendly staff! For 250 euros per night I didn't expect these standard rooms and wanted more luxury. In the Netherlands this is just a normal good hotel, but standard. So you pay about 125 per night, which is half as much.

The rooms were large and comfortable, the building was clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I couldn't adjust the air‑con heat setting, so it got very cold overnight. There were no spare pillows, and the ones provided were extremely thin and uncomfortable; the mattresses were the worst I've ever stayed on. Rome is an ancient city, but the beds don't need to be ancient. Only one thin throw was provided for the big bed, leaving the single bed without an extra blanket. Breakfast was okay in terms of choice, but I would have expected a coffee machine instead of a jug.
