Kampoeng Karst Rammang Rammang

This was the BEST place of our whole month’s holiday. The host was very helpful in arranging trips around the area, owns a boat, and his son is a guide to the local caves. He also showed us the fantastic Angel Lake swim. A few caves can be seen on a walking trail; a small entrance fee rents a battery and you can explore the amazing caves. Besides a great breakfast, you can also have a fantastic dinner. The host has a small shop where you can buy drinks and snacks. With the kids, it was a TOP DESTINATION.

“Basic local experience”

Don’t expect luxury! The location was great and the family was very nice. We stayed with our 3‑year‑old daughter in a 3‑person room, which was just a double bed; no extra bed was available. The facilities are basic but it’s a true local Indonesian experience. There’s no toilet paper, no shower, no hot water. For 1 or 2 nights that’s fine.

“Magical views and atmosphere if you accept the limitations but super friendly family.”

This is as basic as it gets and is not for the faint hearted however if you want a true, traditional, country stay amongst the rice paddies this is it. The area has only recently been opened up and is accessible only by boat. If you are seasoned travelers it is good and we, a couple in our mid seventies, coped well. The family we stayed with cooked a splendid evening meal which was served in their personal over water pagoda and provided a boat tour of the area. Checking in is a little confusing. I am not sure if they have yet grasped the concept

“Betrug”

Nothing, because it was advertised with fake pictures and a wrong address. The address was incorrect; it should have been on an accessible street. At the boat dock we were told we’d have to take a boat to get there, which was paid for (100,000 Rupiah). We had to pay for entry to the village. The house was uninhabited, so there was no homestay, no reception, only a non‑English‑speaking neighbor who came when called. The house was on the 1st floor with 3 rooms that had mattresses and one large hallway. The only extra furnishings were 2 plastic chairs. It was unclear where breakfast should be taken. The house below was locked. The toilet had no washing facilities, no bucket with a scoop. The house and its furnishings did not match the listed photos. It is the worst accommodation we’ve seen so far, so we fled. We had to take a paid boat back to the dock and luckily found another homestay.
