“An enjoyable stay”
We adore the Swan for its food, setting, and ambience. This was our first stay, in the Turner room – a gorgeous two‑floor space with an outdoor area, very clean, private, and overall splendid. We dined twice, and the food and wine list were consistently excellent. The staff were very friendly, making the experience very pleasant. On the downside, the service felt unfinished; many young staff members were present, and I think more senior management could help. For instance, we ordered a pricey bottle of wine on the first night, it was placed on a cooler table, and the staff member walked away. At breakfast the next day, arriving around 10 am, the buffet wasn’t restocked, leaving only a few fruit pieces, a couple of yoghurts, and the end of a loaf of bread, with no glasses for the remaining juices. Coffee finally arrived, but without spoons or sugar, and I paid £9 for poached eggs on toast, which were just two eggs on a slice of bread – no fanfare. I don’t mean to complain, but when hotels hire staff on summer break, there should be more senior presence; the prices we pay aren’t trivial.
