I got the vibe of a classic mountain hotel/onsen right on the edge of forest and bear country, a favorite spot for older Japanese hikers far from tourist roads. The staff were very welcoming, almost like a family inn. The breakfast was a lovely traditional spread for those who appreciate that style. It felt very senior‑friendly, which gave a slight impression of a French EHPAD. Unfortunately, on the night we arrived there was no dinner service at the restaurant, but we could buy food on site.

Surrounded by nature and with only a few rooms, the place stayed quiet, the food was impressively crafted and tasty, and I appreciated the ice‑vending machine. New coins and bills won’t work in the machine (you can exchange them at reception), the night‑shift receptionist was rather unfriendly, and the room had a faint urine smell that might be tolerable once you get used to it. Voices from the kitchen and waitstaff shouting “Hurry up!” or “It’ll be late!” made me smile wryly. The children’s menu seemed a bit thin for my teenage son, and the location is deep in the mountains, which is unavoidable.

The facilities, equipment and staff were all good, and the meals were delicious. While the room’s fixtures and condition were fine, I couldn’t ignore a lingering moldy odor.

The hotel is isolated, quiet, and the staff are charming. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped: minibar, USB and USB‑C ports, Wi‑Fi (though not listed in the description), and a hair dryer. In half‑board, we were offered a Japanese gourmet dinner and breakfast: many small dishes, mostly savory. We did not use the onsens. Nothing to complain about.
