Cerocaui is a beautiful little village that lacks public transport, so the hotels offer to pick you up from the Chepe Train station. I booked with the promise that they would pick me up, but they didn’t. I wrote to them five days before arrival and never got a reply, but since Booking charged me, I assumed Rancho Cabañas was aware of my reservation. That wasn’t the case; I traveled alone as an older adult and found myself in a town and station I didn’t know, they called me and didn’t answer the phone. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had. I demanded a refund and they only offered a third of what I was charged. I’m very disappointed with the poor support, hours after I resolved the issue with Booking, they told me the place is even more isolated, about 20 minutes from the village, meaning you’re completely cut off. I do not recommend them.
Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The loud truck traffic behind the ranch early in the morning was annoying, and you can’t pay by credit card at the ranch.
“Infórmate sobre cada actividad antes de aceptarla y no te sientas presionado por la insistencia”
The staff are mostly very kind, constantly concerned about your comfort and satisfaction with the services. Like most hotels in Cerocahui, it’s far from the train station, so you’ll need to purchase all activities and transfers through the hotel staff, but overall they’re good options, punctual, and very reasonably priced. The food is tasty and fresh. The walk to the Gallego viewpoint was a learning experience thanks to Mr. Daniel, who guided me. Unfortunately, my guide on the hike to Cerocahui waterfall was completely apathetic and indifferent to my needs, moving at his own pace, too fast for someone not used to steep uphill and downhill on rough terrain. The hike lasted over three hours, leaving me exhausted and with a headache. I recommend researching the details of the activities they offer, because they don’t disclose the pros and cons just to sell.
The location was great.
“Beautiful secluded ranch in the middle of nature with amazing host”
From the moment Mario picked us up at the Chepe train station in Bahuichivo, we felt right at home at the ranch he runs with his family. It’s 8 km out of Ceracohui, surrounded by nature. The cabanas were beautiful and very clean, the ranch itself was spacious with plenty of cute animals, seating areas, and a viewing deck overlooking the canyon. Because it’s so remote, you’ll eat at the ranch, and the homemade food was amazing. Mario can arrange all kinds of tours, from horse riding to hiking and a visit to Urique at the canyon’s bottom. The only downside is that there are no ATMs in the entire canyon, so bring enough cash.
