The 4-star Solent Hotel and Spa is nestled in woodland between Southampton and Portsmouth. The FYR Restaurant and Grill features an AA Rosette, offering locally sourced grilled meats, seafood, and fine-dining dishes in an open-plan, theatre-style setting. The hotel is just off the M27 motorway, near the New Forest, Goodwood, and Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard, with Peppa Pig World 18 miles away.

The rooms were nice and clean, but the TVs and air‑con were both broken.

The spa hotel was nicely appointed, close to the M27 and the Portsmouth ferry terminal we were using, and it offered onsite car parking behind a barrier and late check‑in, which we needed; all the staff were friendly and helpful, and the buffet breakfast had an excellent selection, including gluten‑free cereals and soya milks. The shower was a fixed head over the bath with a curtain, which was hard for us older guests to use, and while having tea/coffee facilities in the room was good, if you want milk first thing in the morning you have to get it from a dispenser in the public corridor.

We didn’t get breakfast, and the room was broken and never cleaned.

I had a very enjoyable stay; the spa and fitness facilities were excellent and I liked the breakfast, but the breakfast and access to the spa and fitness cost extra, and it was a bit of a faff to fill out a daily health declaration before being allowed to use them.
