The location was superb, right in the heart of town with plenty of pubs around, and the racecourse was a 30‑minute walk that even offered a pub stop halfway; we could take a bus or taxi back to town afterward.

The spot was ideal, smack in the middle of town, easy to explore on foot and along the canal; breakfast was a set menu with a good mix of cooked or continental options, the staff were friendly and helpful, and a private car park was available, which mattered in the town centre. However, early mornings brought road noise and evenings had disturbances from neighboring rooms, though that was tolerable for a town‑centre stay; the bath offered only a rain‑type shower without a handheld head, which my wife found unsatisfactory.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming, but the room grew quite dark and cold at night.

The staff were incredibly helpful and the food was excellent, making for a very pleasant overall stay, yet the room was very dark with a tiny window that offered no natural light; the lights were too weak to see properly, and at night other guests’ running water and flushing toilets woke us.
