The place sits in a great spot, but the room was so dark and lacked a wardrobe.

The hotel is perfectly positioned just behind Dam Square, within walking distance of everything in the city. It offers good facilities, is spacious, clean, and the staff are friendly enough. The rooms are serviced daily.

The location was excellent, close to the street. No complaints.

The hotel was adequate, nothing special. The staff were good, but the management was a huge letdown. My wife and I are seasoned travelers who have visited Amsterdam at least two dozen times and always found good lodging. This time we booked a 4‑night stay at Die Port van Cleve for the first time, paying in advance. We checked in around 11:30 am on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, were charged an extra 25 euros for early check‑in, and were scheduled to depart on Saturday, August 15. On Wednesday morning, still three full days before our planned departure, I asked the front desk to shorten our stay by one night so we would leave on Friday instead of Saturday. Syrel, who was very kind, contacted the hotel “reservation department” and they said we would not receive a refund for the final, unused night. I called to enlist their help and they were also very kind. The agent called the hotel while I was on hold to stress that we were long‑time customers and our request was minimal—we would simply be staying for 3 nights instead of 4. The “reservation department” wouldn’t budge. We checked out on Friday anyway and are now out 275 € for the last night. Nearly two weeks later, after appealing to the hotel manager, this was the response I received: “Your reservation was made on a prepaid rate. Unfortunately, the conditions attached to this rate do not provide for a refund when a stay is shortened after arrival.” He went on to blame it on the staff, saying he was “sorry (for) the way this was communicated,” but his explanation is nonsense. Staff was helpful. He could issue a refund with the click of a mouse. It was his decision and his alone. Considering the small ask I was making, I feel the way the hotel manager treated us was outrageous. I travel a lot and am accustomed to better service. Is business so bad they have to shake down their customers for a lousy 275 €?
