“This residence inn wouldn’t ever be where I would establish my residence; you get what you pay for I guess”
I like Residence Inns and its location for what I was doing in Ann Arbor. Breakfast was good. Construction all around the property made it hard to even find the front door; the address listed Huron, but we actually entered on a different street, so we got lost at first. We called the front desk and the clerk could help us! When we pulled up the valet wanted to charge $38 for parking, but we discovered we could park ourselves in the same building for $1.80 an hour—a better deal. The clerks could explain my charges that increased from what Booking told me. The manager came out and explained it was for “incidentals” and could clarify what that meant. The room on the 5th floor was cold and noisy; garbage trucks came at 5 am, 6 am, and the vent system ran every hour, so I hardly slept—horrible. There was hardly any hot water; I had to run the water forever to get it hot…what a waste.
“Great location, comfy room”
The place sits in a great spot, the room was comfy, the staff were friendly, and breakfast was excellent.
The room was very nice. It has a nice kitchen (although I would change the lightbulbs to 3000K; trust me) and is big enough to host a pregame party, which is what we needed it for :). The check in process was extremely stressful. They upgraded the rooms without saying anything at check in. Usually that is fine, but I had planned out the room types based on the people staying in them (it was a bachelorette party, and some people didn't know each other, so I didn't think they should room together, whereas other people did know each other and could be together easily). They needed everyone's first and last names at check in, usually fine as well, but they asked me to spell them verbally. which honestly was kind of tough. And when I asked to just write them down, the people working there gave me a hard time. To be honest, I would have preferred less of an upgrade and more to be on the same floor all together. Additionally, the room was really hot when I first arrived and I couldn't get it to cool down. It was cold outside so this seemed really weird, &the windows didn't open in the living space, only in the bedroom area. I adjusted the thermostat & it made no difference until about 8 hours later. I turned it back down, & in the morning, it was now freezing in the bedroom area, and back to being hot in the living space. It made sleeping very uncomfortable. It turned out there was a second thermostat I hadn't seen. still not sure which one worked on the bedroom. They were both in the living space. Also, parking was a nightmare. I called ahead to ask if parking was included in our stay, since there is a public lot very close. And the person on the phone rudely said "Oh NO! It's not. We have a valet service that costs extra though! And parking is free after midnight!" I thought okay, it will probably be cheaper that way. well it wasn't. And the parking garage is under construction. And not accessible from the hotel's street currently. I really wish the person on the phone would have taken the time to explain that. I'm sure lots of people have questions about this
“Paid too much for what I got.”
The spot is convenient, but the room price feels steep for what you get, and parking costs are also high.
“Perfect stay”
Everything about this hotel was flawless. I was charged a $38 parking fee, received my car and keys but no bill, and when I asked the staff if I owed anything they said no, which was confusing because I assumed it was part of the hotel bill.
