“Zimmer mit Blick”

The apartment was well equipped with a full kitchen, washing machine and dryer, and the balcony of rooms 2 and 3 offered a great city view; the bus stop was very close and frequent links to the city centre, a bakery and a small supermarket were just around the corner. The downside was that it was very hard to locate because no house number was given and the code for the key box was only sent after asking upon arrival; the lighting inside was far too bright.

“Very disappointed with the host's attitude and unpleasant sleeping conditions with stinky pillows.”

The location and view were nice, nothing else to add. Downstairs in the apartment there were cockroaches and ants, the pillows and blanket smelled bad, and when I told the host, he became rude and implied that I wanted a refund; he didn’t apologise for the stinky pillows or the stained bedding. We were also given only two incomplete rolls of toilet paper, just one extra trash bag, and the soap dispenser was broken. I gave two points only because of the view.

“Perfect place to stay”

The balcony view was amazing, and the apartment had everything we needed.

The terrace offered a nice view, and the location was a bit far from the city but that didn’t bother us; we wanted a quiet place. It was okay, but I wish I’d read the real reviews instead of just the star rating. The photos made it look decent, but the bed was quite uncomfortable and we found a few cockroaches in the bedroom, which was unpleasant. Basic items like soap and toilet paper were barely stocked—less than half full when we arrived. It was also noisy, with poor sound insulation, so we could clearly hear the people upstairs, who were loud too. I didn’t bring up any of these problems with the host at the time, but I was disappointed when I asked about wine tasting and received an automatic reply saying they didn’t know—no mention at all of the two well‑known wine distilleries in Funchal, which we ended up finding ourselves. All in all, it just didn’t meet expectations, and I wouldn’t stay here again.

The owner was very available, the house was beautiful, well furnished, a great spot, and the parking was close. We didn’t know it was a shared house.
