The staff were helpful and friendly, both at the hotel and the restaurant, and they responded quickly after I complained about the room on the first night, moving me to a more acceptable room. The initial room allocated to one of us (Room 25) was completely unacceptable, especially considering the price. It was extremely small, with barely enough space to move around the bed and no room for a chair. It opened directly onto the driveway leading to the car park, with cars and people regularly passing immediately outside. The only natural light came through this glazed entrance door, which meant there was very little privacy. More seriously, there were no windows, so the only way to get any fresh air into the room was to leave the entrance door open onto the driveway, which was obviously not a realistic option overnight. The resulting lack of ventilation and poor air quality significantly affected my sleep. Sound insulation was also very poor; the walls were thin enough that the neighbouring room's television could be heard clearly. I was genuinely shocked that the owners considered this an acceptable room for paying guests. I raised the issue with management, but unfortunately was given no confidence that anything would change. These are not minor complaints about décor or comfort. The lack of ventilation, privacy, space and sound insulation made Room 25 wholly unsuitable for guest accommodation. I would have found these conditions unacceptable at £50 per night, let alone approximately £150 per night.

The place is beautiful, with excellent food and drink, a quiet location, friendly and welcoming staff, and a lovely clean room with a large comfortable bed. Best of all, it’s dog friendly and the room we had has a little fenced‑off area attached. Perfect. Nothing negative, this is my second stay and I’ll be coming again.

It’s conveniently located and the staff were very accommodating, especially Connor. The food was very good, particularly the breakfast. We were in room 15, which was quite satisfactory but lacked some facilities. There was no drawer provision, just a shelf under the coffee/tea machine. Apart from a couple of coat hooks on the door and a rail above the coffee area there was nowhere to hang clothes, so we had to live out of the suitcase. There was also no fridge for milk, etc., and no toilet roll holder. I explained all of that to the receptionist before leaving.
