The staff really stood out—friendly, professional, and always ready to help, which made the stay especially pleasant. The hotel was immaculate and well kept, and the location was great for getting around and exploring the area. However, the property doesn’t feel like a five‑star resort; it’s more like a four‑star or even lower by European standards, especially for a tropical island. In the room, the hair dryer is very basic, shower pressure is weak, and the soap and shampoo are only standard. The minibar offers a limited range, with few non‑alcoholic drinks, basic instant coffee, and a small selection of infusions. Some furniture, especially the sofa, shows its age. The brutalist architecture feels characterless and lacks a true Maldivian vibe. The walkway between islands has unstable concrete tiles that could be a safety concern. Rainy days are disappointing because there are few covered spots, so guests have little to do and the atmosphere feels dull and cramped. Dining also falls short of five‑star standards: toothpicks are missing at tables, and there’s no salt or pepper during lunch and dinner. The buffet’s juice, fruit, and dessert choices are poor; desserts use too much bright buttercream, and the macarons are dry. Local dishes are limited and not well presented. Only one themed buffet night occurred during the stay, and the à‑la‑carte and reservation restaurants offer little more than the buffet, with uninspiring options.

The rooms were spotlessly clean and the water was absolutely amazing. The food offered a great variety and tasted superb. Nothing else.

The food was delicious, and I normally don’t favor Riu resorts because they seem more budget‑friendly than luxurious, but Riu Palace Maldives was an exception. The rooms were very nice and well maintained, and the furniture felt sturdier and more durable than at other Riu Caribbean locations. Every staff member was personable and friendly. Overall, the experience was wonderful. One downside was the lack of activities on the palace side; I spent 90 % of my time on the Atoll side because that’s where most activities were available.
