I arrived in a terrible situation because they told me there were no rooms left even though I had booked beforehand. The organization was bad.

I adored Gwen, Tom, the dogs, the location, and the atmosphere, and the beach was beautiful.

We spent almost a week at Rancho Esperanza in Jiquilillo and honestly would have liked to stay forever. It was incredibly beautiful and laid‑back! The cabins were just right with everything you need, including Swiss toilets and an outdoor shower, which made it special. Hängematten hung everywhere on the grounds, and we spent hours simply reading and unwinding. The beach was an absolute dream, endless, almost empty, and with gorgeous sunsets. You can surf when conditions allow, and you can usually swim. And the food—wow. Ana, the cook, was amazing! She prepared delicious vegetarian meals every day, arguably the best meals of our entire trip through South and Central America. We looked forward to them each time. Tom and Gwen, the hosts, were legends—warm, super relaxed, and helpful. We fell in love with them instantly and enjoyed spending time with them and listening to their stories. The whole vibe was family‑like, calm, and positive, exactly the place we were looking for while traveling. We would have loved to stay much longer! A few tips: there are no ATMs nearby, so bring plenty of cash. US dollars are accepted everywhere as long as the bills look good. Accommodation and food can also be paid easily with Revolut or PayPal. If you need a SIM card, you can get one right around the corner from the neighbor. And definitely do the bioluminescence kayak tour with Ramon—it was one of the most beautiful experiences ever!
