“Un albergue muy atractivo y peculiar.”
Olga, Miguel and Lucia, the hosts, are very nice, and you can feel the pure mountain air in the Pasiegas; the only downside is a cow near the hostel that keeps ringing the bell at night.

What I liked most was the mountain views, because the place is, as its name suggests, hidden among them; there are two lovely trails nearby that don’t require a car, the Pasiegas cabins trail and the hayloft trail, where, if you’re lucky, you might spot a wolf. Miguel, Olga and Lucía are charming people who will do everything in their power to make your stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. We had a flat tyre and Miguel, who is handy and built the house from scratch, left us a compressor so we could go to a mechanic in Solares the next day to fix it. Our stay was 15 days and, as can happen, we had a bad weather day, but we had board games, a foosball table and a pool. Be careful: there’s a rule that if you don’t score any of your balls and the game ends, you have to go under it. This accommodation is in the Pasiegos valleys, which means it’s far from the beach, as the beach is an hour or so from Escondite. I recommend having breakfast at the accommodation, because the nearby towns don’t open their bars early (breakfast is from 09:00h to 10:00h) and bring cash, because aside from the larger towns like Selaya, the others don’t accept cards. If you want peace, mountain air, to see how the Pasiegos live and be surrounded by animals all the time, Escondite is your place. Safe travels and a pleasant stay. Oh, and send our regards, Ana and José Clausi! You should keep two things in mind: 1. If you don’t like animals, don’t even think about going. 2. If you’re sharing a room with other guests, be aware that they might snore, talk in their sleep, be noisy, or go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Please don’t expect things you didn’t consider, like what I just described. If you don’t like animals, you might find goat droppings on the path to the hostel.

The hosts, the surroundings, the estate… everything. The access is a bit tricky; you have to descend carefully.

The welcome was very warm, the food good, the beds comfortable, and the place clean. The shared bathrooms, the very isolated location and the distance from everything make it unsuitable for exploring the region, and it’s a bit pricey. A kettle in the dining room would be appreciated.

The place offers beautiful views, the owners’ hospitality is unbeatable, and the food is absolutely delicious.
