The location was perfect, the host was great and even accompanied us to the temples, and the corridor walk was pleasant, but the quality of the rooms was lacking.

I have to start by praising Deepesh, the heart and soul of Shivnandan Stay in Ujjain. He’s a 23‑year‑old, mature and pleasant person, though his voice remains boyish and innocent both on the phone and in person. From the moment I booked until every follow‑up, he was prompt, polite, and quick to answer all my questions. He was reachable via WhatsApp and phone, though sometimes a little delayed because he’s essentially a one‑man operation. The homestay is comfortable, covers all basics, and is about 500 m from Mahakaleshwar Mandir. It’s simple yet meets every need: clean bed and pillow, fresh washroom with hot water, A/C (we didn’t use it because it was cold in the second week of Jan 26), a fan, good sleep quality, a kettle, a TV (which we didn’t use due to time constraints and Bhasma Aarti timings). The room had four beds even though we were only two, and we never asked why. He let us check in early and even brought our suitcase up two floors, which was a huge help. He also offered tea on the last day at no charge, saying it was his way of thanking us. Shivnandan Stay, led by Deepesh, is a small gem near the temple with basic comforts and an attentive host. I recommend it for anyone staying short or long in Ujjain and advise them to get all details and assistance from Deepesh to make their trip pleasant and happy. On the downside, we expected more and felt that there were still some deficiencies.

They charged us extra for two additional hours that most hotels give for free, the room was very uncomfortable, and there was no space to walk—only big beds were there! The only positive is that the hotel is close to the temple. I would suggest booking a different hotel.
