We had a great meal, and the room was pretty.

A stay in a traditional Ardèche farmhouse was fantastic; the countryside setting was perfect. Bernard greeted us warmly, and Bernard Tres was very friendly. The breakfast offered a wide selection of local products, making it a real treat.

The road to the property narrowed and became almost gravel, placing us deep in the countryside where the only sounds were cows and flies. The owner, an elderly gentleman who didn’t speak English, offered little conversation, but we were given fruit upon arrival and biscuits when we checked out. The bathroom was well equipped and the large bed was very comfortable, so overall the price was a good deal. However, sharing the house with the owner meant that access to the guest floor was through his cluttered living room, which was a surprise. The entryway was messy and felt like staying with a friend’s grandpa—charming to some, off‑putting to others. Moving luggage was difficult because of delicate items scattered around. The guest rooms were crowded with decorations and unnecessary items that interfered with space. Cleanliness was acceptable, depending on your standards. The room had window screens, but they weren’t installed, so flies quickly got in. At night we were also visited by hornets—typical country living. Breakfast was the final disappointment: moldy jam, poorly washed dishes, and coffee served in a bowl. In short, it was a rustic “grandpa’s house” experience—take it or leave it.
