Family‑run Bärenkrug sits opposite Molfsee Lake, 15 minutes from Kiel, offering free Wi‑Fi, sauna access, and a restaurant serving regional cuisine. Bright rooms include TV, desk, mineral water, some with terraces. Guests enjoy a courtyard garden with beers, a breakfast buffet, Westensee Nature Reserve hiking, and easy access to Kiel Airport and Flintbek train station, plus the Schleswig‑Holstein Outdoor Museum.

Because I’ve known and loved the Bärenkrug for 50 years, I’m biased… Unfortunately, this time I didn’t have the chance to visit the restaurant, which is very good and cozy. I ended up with a room directly above the courtyard exit, and until the end of the dining experience, quiet was hard to find with the window open.

We ate in the restaurant in the evening; the food and service were excellent—big compliment. Unfortunately, the coffee at breakfast was inedible. In the room, the lighting at the beds was weak, the towels were very old, and the mattress was not comfortable. Therefore, the value for money is poor for us.

The worst service, no contact. A person books the hotel, arrives, and the hotel is closed; there’s no way to reach anyone. The reservation says it’s until 21:00, but in reality it’s until 12:00 noon—fraud and scamming the client for money. I do not recommend this hotel at all; I strongly advise against choosing it.
