“Zeer onhygiënisch!”
The owner's family was very kind, which was the only positive thing during our stay. We booked this place as a stopover, expecting a decent place based on the 8.6 rating, but when we arrived the setting looked a bit messy yet still had potential. The room was far from clean: the duvet was heavily stained, the towels had dirty spots, and the pillow smelled musty, making me doubt whether a fresh cover was even present. We ended up sleeping under our own towels. The bathroom was also far from clean; the toilet had not been cleaned for a long time and didn’t flush properly. The room fridge was dirty and seemed uncleaned for a while. For safety, we left our luggage in the car because of hygiene and possible pests. In the past, we’ve stayed in hostels that were much cleaner than this lodge. Arriving in the evening and the lodge being remote left us with no other option to book elsewhere, otherwise we would have. The breakfast was very limited and the dining area was unclean, so we ate almost nothing. Among all the accommodations on our South Africa tour, this was the worst, especially because of the poor hygiene. Basic hygiene is a must; we can’t expect luxury. We don’t understand how this place gets an 8.6 rating or why people are enthusiastic about it. We also don’t understand how the owner can let guests stay in such filthy rooms. The value for money is simply wrong.
