The hotel is in a good location in Funchal, the pool is nice for cooling off on a hot day, and the breakfast buffet is simple but extensive. The parking lot was full, even though it seemed there was plenty of space during the day and evening; we weren't told in advance that we needed to reserve a spot, and the information about paid alternative parking was unclear. The hotel and rooms are very old and show signs of deferred maintenance: the bathroom tap leaked, the TV remotes didn’t work, there were almost no power outlets, and the few available ones were in inconvenient spots. Overall, the value for money was limited and it felt expensive for what it offered.

The location was fantastic and I really enjoyed the balcony and the views, but the room felt very old, as if it hadn’t been updated in a long time; the corridors smelled awful, and the bathroom was scratched and looked terrible even though it had been cleaned.

I booked a room at Girassol Hotel and the spot was great; the place is new, the elevator might be a bit small but the room itself was spotless and brand‑new, and the breakfast was pretty good.
