Located in picturesque Lyddington, Leicestershire countryside, The Marquess of Exeter is a historic 4-star country inn featuring traditional period details, cosy log fires, and leafy gardens. Luxurious rooms offer crisp linens, free Wi-Fi, and private modern bathrooms. The inn serves fine British cuisine and features a bar with exposed beams, stone walls, and scenic views of the gardens, just a 15-minute drive from Rutland Water.

The hotel was very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was great, and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

The room was a good size and the bar was very comfortable, though the beer selection wasn’t great; the Asian restaurant was very good and I had a lovely evening meal, but I’m not a fan of the breakfast buffet—ingredients were low quality and there was no decaf coffee or tea.

The place was spotless and well maintained, and the huge garden at the back was fully lit, so I almost missed it. The floor boards creak a bit, and the soundproofing isn’t great, so it can get noisy.

The village setting is gorgeous, the food is superb, the staff are friendly, and everything is immaculate. The mattresses are very firm, and there’s no soundproofing between rooms, plus the floor boards above are squeaky.
