Everything was spot‑on.

The room still smelled of old smoke, and in the hot August heat a heavy featherbed felt out of place, so I had to cover it with the duvet because there were no thin blankets. In the courtyard the solar lights shone all night, making it impossible to darken the room except by closing the shutters.

The host was wonderfully sweet and the breakfast was really good; the area was charming with plenty of character. I did miss a fan in the room, as the weather was lovely but it got very hot at night.
