“A guesthouse in a sweet village off the beaten track”
St Hilaire is a lovely residential hilltop village with limited local shops, so driving is essential to find restaurants; the staff and owner were charming, accommodating, and very responsive. The guesthouse boasts a beautiful back garden, a swimming pool, and a shared living room downstairs. The owners, who recently purchased the property, are working to improve shortcomings. The apartments are a nicer option than the individual double rooms; we stayed in an upstairs double with a small bathroom that was clean but very basic, monastic, and undecorated with only white walls. The mattress was thin with a metal rim that you could feel at the edge, and there was no air conditioning, though a new ceiling fan helped. We had to request a second set of pillows, which were shared from an empty room, but overall we wish the new owners well as they upgrade this lovely, peaceful location.
