“Basic accommodation, which needs some maintenance.”
Our stay at the Palmeras del Río was a mixed experience. On one hand, the staff were amazing, doing everything possible to make us comfortable and creating a great atmosphere. On the other hand, the accommodation was very basic, which was expected, but there were still many shortcomings. The family room was spacious with 8 beds and mosquito nets, and it had a private bathroom and toilet that we didn’t use much. Fruit smoothies and pizza were delicious. Our toilet didn’t have a seat—there were signs of a seat once, but it was gone. The public toilet had one, so we used that more often. Our shower lacked a shower head, so we used the public one, which had one; unfortunately, it fell on the back of our 7‑year‑old, which was bad luck. The room had a broken power outlet. The food was only warm at best, even when we arrived 15 minutes before the agreed breakfast or dinner time. The hotel was empty; we were among three groups, at most 10 people. We had to share two hammocks. Most places had peeling paint, giving a shabby impression. The staff were on standby all day but did little, which is fine by me. With some paint, new toilet seats, and electric supplies, the place could be much better. The hotel sits on the lake, but the lake is a highway of loud boats coming and going when it’s light or even after dark; the sound travels far.
