Super location near the beach and pedestrian zone—train station.
The friendliness of one staff member was appreciated and breakfast was okay, but another staff member was grumpy; more importantly, the location did not match the photos on the website—there was no pier in view or nearby, and the hotel sits amid a sea of 6/7‑storey mass‑tourism hotels; the whole place relies on illusion and kitsch, yet my room with a window lacked a blackout curtain—only a small one for daytime and a larger gray one above it, so people from the many opposite balconies could see into my room and I had to lower the night curtain immediately, feeling imprisoned in the tiny space; the price was 180 euros per night, horrendous for such a lack of quality; the staff said they'd fix it but nothing happened, even at night, so I cut my vacation short the next day, losing both money and the holiday.
The breakfast and staff were excellent, but the beds were disappointing, rating 5.0/10.
The breakfast staff, POC‑Frau, were very friendly and attentive, and I never had to wait for coffee, which is often the case elsewhere. The rolls and cakes were delicious, and there was mozzarella with cheese, smoked fish, egg and poultry salad, assorted cheeses and cold cuts, plus fruit yogurt. In my room they refilled instant coffee every day, something not taken for granted in other hotels. The shower worked flawlessly, the showerhead wasn’t limescale‑clogged or wobbly, and the temperature adjusted easily. The hotel sits right in the pedestrian zone, just five minutes from the beach, which is pristine, well‑kept, and arguably the best on Sylt, so you don’t need to go elsewhere for a good seaside experience. The bus station is a short walk away, giving access to all lines and making island exploration easy. There was no elevator, so I had to haul a heavy suitcase up two steep flights of stairs, something the description should mention. The TV offered only four channels, two of which were totally distorted; I reported it and it was fixed. I know Sylt is pricey and the location is unique, but €170 a night for a budget‑hostel vibe feels steep. The carpet in my room has seen better days. The scrambled eggs at breakfast probably came from a pre‑mixed batch and tasted slightly sweet, a type of scramble I’ve encountered in other hotels and don’t like. The rooms are extremely sound‑transparent, so you hear everything from neighboring rooms and vice versa. Once I tried to sleep a bit longer, I was woken by two Russian‑speaking housemaids not because they entered my room but because they were chatting loudly; though I don’t speak Russian, it was clear they were having long private conversations unrelated to work, which is distracting.
The room was spacious, spotless and even had a tiny kitchenette, while the breakfast was plentiful, varied and of excellent quality; however, lugging luggage up to the second floor felt a bit cramped and winding.
