This little gem in Hakuba is perfect for solo travelers, and I think it would also be lovely for friends or couples based on my own experience. The lodge is run by a sweet elderly couple and their daughter Maki, who speaks perfect English, so communication was smooth. I was a bit nervous traveling alone, but they were so kind and warm that it felt more like staying at a relative’s house than a hotel. The lodge sits close to the Sakka lift on Happo-one mountain, about a 5‑minute walk to nearby restaurants, and about a 25‑minute walk or a 5‑minute drive to the main stretch of restaurants, bars, and convenience stores—getting an Uber or taxi in Hakuba is actually easy. The location is close enough to everything yet tucked away enough to stay away from the rowdy downtown. The rules they set keep the vibe peaceful and made me feel safe. I’ll always remember coming downstairs to a beautifully prepared breakfast with soft jazz playing, watching snow fall outside the stained‑glass windows, and chatting with Maki, asking her silly questions like, “what should I say back to someone if they say dozo on the lift?” What a lovely way to end this year’s ski season ❤️

Heartwarming and simple, nothing fancy but more than enough. There really wasn’t anything else to note.

I loved this Japanese family‑run guest house. The host family treated me warmly and gave me insider tips on where to eat and how the shuttle buses worked. Breakfast was beautifully served every morning, and they even waved goodbye in the Uber to make sure I got away safely. It’s one of my favourite places to stay in Japan. The area is in Wadano, which I liked because it’s a little away from the main hub but only 5 minutes to Sakka ski slopes and ten minutes to the buses to other resorts, and about twenty minutes walk to Happo Village. It was easy enough to catch a taxi or Uber into town.
