“Bad experience with the front staff upon check in.”

The room was clean, spacious, and the location was convenient. However, the breakfast spread needed improvement. We arrived around 7 am from Singapore with my 81‑year‑old mother‑in‑law to avoid holiday traffic, and we wanted to check in early after breakfast at 9 am. We told the front‑desk staff we were willing to pay extra for an early check‑in of one room, but they refused and said the rooms were full. By 10 am we saw a group of guests checking out, so we asked again; the staff said they would check with their supervisor, but the supervisor also said it was not possible. We were very disappointed, especially since we only needed one room for my mother‑in‑law to rest and were still willing to pay extra. There was no empathy from the staff or the security officer, who merely told us to ask the front desk again. The answer remained the same, and we had to wait until 3 pm to check in. In the end my mother‑in‑law slept on the sofa on the ground floor. The lack of empathy was disheartening. We usually stay at Pines Hotel whenever we visit Malacca, but this experience made us reconsider for future trips.

The hotel is about a 15‑minute walk from the city centre, offers a nice river view from the room, has a large and spacious room, and includes parking in the price. Breakfast is good and the value for money is solid. In the first room assigned, the air conditioning did not work, but the hotel arranged a room change, though the timing was not exactly immediate.
