Location, staff, historic building, and my room 9 were all great, but the bed felt too firm and the mattress had many knobbly cloth buttons.

The spot is fantastic, right on Ilfracombe’s harbour. We booked a deluxe double with a bath overlooking the water; the room itself was very nice, clean, and charmingly old‑fashioned. The bathroom was a bit worn, which is common in older hotels; a freshening up, maybe re‑pointing the grout and a thorough hard clean, would help, but it was acceptable for our stay and didn’t deter us from returning. We didn’t use the bar or restaurant, but in Ilfracombe there are plenty of other options; the bar usually attracts middle‑aged locals, and the hotel can’t rely on its own dining to compete with the local scene.

The location was superb, the staff very friendly, breakfast was good, and the views were great. The room was comfortable, and there was nothing negative—everything was excellent.

The room was huge, spotless, and offered stunning views; the bed felt incredibly cozy. The only downside was the shampoo – no conditioner was supplied, leaving my hair feeling terrible.
