“POTENTIEL 10+ mais dans la pratique un coup de gueule pour le BRUIT donc 4”
The stay was difficult to evaluate; in short, the hotel has 10+ potential because of its excellent location on the Atlantic coast, a history, spacious comfortable rooms (though the view isn’t great for all rooms), rooms for rest and reading, and a terrace overlooking the ocean, but what we didn’t appreciate was that all three restaurants had unbearably loud elevator‑music‑like sound; I traveled 2000 km by train and car to find the same music in a nearby mall, and on the first evening (the dinner) the noise was louder than at King’s Cross or St Pancras during rush hour, which was unbearable even though the food itself was good. This happened every night, not just once. In the large reading and relaxing room, the loud music persisted even at 8 a.m.; when we asked for it to be turned down, it was lowered, but 10 minutes later someone increased it again in a room that is specifically marked as a quiet space. We went to breakfast at 7:30 a.m., and even when there were few people, the music was still there. I don’t know what the managers think, but in so many places they play music that drowns out the atmosphere, and in this case, given the extraordinary potential, it’s disheartening; perhaps people just pass by and don’t say anything because they think it has to be like that, but it isn’t.
