The location was great, but the breakfast was strictly conservative Japanese; we paid for it but didn’t end up eating it.

The location on the river was perfect, a lovely evening walk into town for dinner, the onsen was really nice to relax in after a day of exploring, the staff were very friendly, and breakfast was good.

This hotel is lovely, well located, easily walkable along the river to many hotels and bars; the rooms are large and clean, the staff very helpful and even lent us umbrellas during a Kyoto downpour; the breakfast offered both western and Japanese options; overall it was our favorite stay of the trip to Japan.

The hotel is attractive and sits nicely along the Kamo Gawa canal, offering a pleasant walk; the setting is tranquil, the property soothing, with a very quiet street view, comfortable rooms and bedding, and easy access to metro and buses for all the sights—a solid base. Breakfast is a mostly Japanese buffet, though the few industrial croissants are scarce for those who don’t like the typical morning spread, and after five days the limited variety becomes a bit tiresome.

I stayed at a pretty building on a quiet riverside spot that had a lot of potential, but the sheet had a stain, the mattress was full of hair, and the air‑con was covered in mold, and that stayed that way even after we asked for a cleaning. The staff were rushed and seemed stressed, and they called us at half‑nine to come to breakfast even though the breakfast area didn’t close until half‑ten, which was pointless. The breakfast was Japanese with barely any fresh fruit, no yogurt or boiled eggs. If you wanted coffee during the day or in the evening, you had to pay 500 yen at the front desk for a cup for the machine. The rooms were dated and the beds were extremely uncomfortable.
