The site was in a lovely spot, east of the Shankli train station, which was great since we didn’t drive, but the outdoor heated swimming pool was shut down at the beginning of September.

The caravan was absolutely filthy everywhere; it needed a deep clean inside and out and a refurbishment. Owner's belongings were scattered all over. We had to call Park Dean management and cleaning staff to remove the stained bedding, kettle, toaster, grill pan, and to try to clean the stained carpets and sofas, but the mould in the bathroom, the stains on the walls, and the overall grime were impossible to hide. The owner is a private caravan owner, not part of Park Dean resorts. When we rang the owner on arrival to report the condition, their phone was off and Park Dean couldn’t reach them, so they billed us for five cleaners to come in. We would not stay here again for free.

The location and surrounding area were great, with nice beaches and plenty of amenities, and the bed was reasonably comfortable. However, we were told by the cleaner that we could only access the property until 3 pm, even though we had arranged to arrive earlier, and we had no proof of that arrangement. The communication was poor. We had to leave until the cleaner supposedly finished, and when we returned the property was in a poor state of cleanliness and maintenance. The shower room was in a disgusting condition with black mould up and around the shower, mould by the side of the bed, a dirty blind in the washroom, and a crack in the washroom sink. We found a dog ball and lighter under one of the beds, which should have been vacuumed up. There was no toilet roll (good thing we brought our own), no plug in the sink, nor any washing‑up implements left. The whole caravan was lacking cleanliness and maintenance. Under the TV, books and magazines were untidy; this doesn’t take two minutes to tidy up and create a good impression. Dead spiders were on the ceiling. I could go on. I contacted the owner personally about these issues, and he kindly got back to me, seeming very concerned about the lack of care and maintenance. He offered to send a cleaner around to sort the issues, but I didn’t find it prudent at the time while we were staying there. He said he would get it deep‑cleaned and contact the cleaning company that had let him down badly when we left.

The memory‑foam beds were comfy, the location was close to the park entrance, and the shower, toilet, seating, and kitchen were all good; the beds were made and towels were supplied. The key safe was problematic, with a stiff and snapped part.

The location was decent, but the caravan was filthy when we entered: the sofa, beds, and floor were all dirty, there was a lot of rubbish, no toilet paper in the bathroom, and the decking wasn’t cleaned.
