“Perfect location inside the beautiful fort”

The location and ambience were really great, perfectly situated inside the fort and surrounded by little streets and shops. I was traveling off‑season, so they couldn’t offer me the same price for the desert safari they provide and tried to overcharge me way too much, which was sad. During the season the tours are a daily thing and also reasonably priced.

You’re staying in the fort, but everything is at the base, so you have to walk up and down the hill each time. The air‑con was cold in the private room, and the owner was great at taking me to the train station when I realized I’d forgotten something on the train. It started off SO well. After the train trip, he was extremely pushy about joining his desert tour, negotiating the price as you do in India, and then he was extremely cold for the rest of my stay—unacceptable for a hostel manager. The price was 10x higher than elsewhere in town, which I regret not noticing. One staff member was extremely creepy; I think he was the one who had a punch/physical fight with another staff member. The desert wasn’t endless dunes like Morocco but more like dry arid scrub with a small patch of sand. I was told the kitchen was closed, yet another guest (an Indian) had food cooked for him from the kitchen and served it to his room. The bedroom had very poor lighting to the point I had to use my phone to see at night, and the water heater in the bathroom emitted sparking sounds and an unpleasant smell.

“Stunning place with amazing people working here ❤️”

Honestly, the best part of my stay was the help I received after being injured! Narendra helped me so much and drove me to two hospitals even late at night after being trampled by a cow. He drove me around the next day so I could get treatments and was just an absolute sweetheart—wouldn’t know what I would have done without him! Somesh is an extremely nice guy and lovely to hang out with. Narendra, Somesh, and everyone else at Zostel Jaisalmer made my stay beautiful, even though my arrival wasn’t the greatest traveling experience. So thank you to all of you! The room I booked was absolutely stunning, and the view from the balcony and the food I ate were amazing. I would always come back. Nothing to complain about—it was perfect and I couldn’t have wished for a nicer place or better company from the staff.
