“Good if you like to step back in time”
I booked a room here without knowing the area and the surroundings were lovely. The 17th‑century house sits in established gardens with trees, shrubs, and a large lawn. The parking area is tiny, but we had booked a spot beforehand and could park with another car. We were surprised to have to walk across grass to reach the door, but it was dry and caused no trouble. No dog poo was found, and the owner’s dogs were not loose. Inside, the owner showed us to a small cosy snug for registration and breakfast preferences, and he was very pleasant and friendly. He then led us to our room upstairs, the Deluxe King Room. The stairs are very steep, so anyone with mobility issues may find it unsuitable; I have difficulty with stairs but just about managed. The room was accessed through an old oak door that was a bit hard to close, but that’s expected in a 17th‑century house. The bathroom was a few steps down the landing, private and not shared, with a warped door that wouldn’t close but could be pushed open. It had a fair‑sized shower cubicle, plenty of piping hot water, and clean towels. There was no TV, which I understand given the thin walls that let noise travel. The room was spacious, had double glazing, and the floor was uneven and sloping—funny, but excusable for a 400‑year‑old building. A wardrobe was available, and extra bedding items were inside.
