“There is a reason for being in the top 10 worldwide. Classy bygone era hotel.”
What to say. It is the Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, one of the best. I usually stay at other hotels in BKK for loyalty programs, but I will stay here more often. It’s just amazing. The rooms, the service, the pool. The glare makes it amazing. Very classic style that will bring you back to a bygone era. Maybe not for the modern vibe seeker, but it’s what luxury is. There is basically nothing that can be said negative about this hotel. I put a mad mark on service despite being amazing due to one very offensive remark when we arrived. My wife is Thai and younger than me. Yet she is not a bar girl but a rich Thai self‑made woman. She did not know we were staying at this hotel as usually we book a nearby one, so when she opened the car door she asked which hotel it was. The staff said this is the Mandarin Oriental. “Are you looking for this hotel?” as there is another Mandarin in BKK. That other Mandarin is a swanky 3‑star. I did not make a scene, but this is unacceptable. These types of remarks from a staff mean they acquired a royalty for working at the place. They forget humbleness and decor. Still it does not change my respect for the hotel.
