We loved almost everything here. This old‑world pub feels very quaint, and the rooms are surprisingly cozy and well equipped. The bar is a charming, snug spot with a log fire, locals with their dogs, a friendly pub dog that sits beside you, and lively banter. Everyone made us feel welcome. The traditional bar meal was excellent—better quality than many places we’ve stayed at—and very reasonably priced. It’s convenient for Cadwell Park, so we were disappointed to learn they don’t open on weekends, which is when most race events happen. The price excludes breakfast, which is fine because we have to leave early to eat it. The only downside was the lack of parking for a trailer, though there was plenty of on‑street parking for a car if the car park was full.

The landlord was incredibly friendly, the food was great, and the old inn is steeped in history. It’s dog friendly and the landlord’s dog was adorable. The owner knows the local walks well, so if you enjoy walking this place is definitely worth considering. The room was clean, the bedding was tidy, and because it’s in the countryside it was quiet at night with a super comfortable bed. I was traveling for work and would book again whenever I’m in the area. The room price was cheap considering the history, tea/coffee tray, hand soap, shower gel, and quality of sleep, and in my view charging more would still be good value for money. There was nothing I didn’t like about the property, and I have no suggestions for improvement.

The location is very peaceful and the welcome was friendly. The only drawback was the absence of Wi‑Fi, which was worsened by weak or no cell signal.

The English country pub is quaint, the staff are very friendly, and the food is good. The room was a bit small.
