“Excelente pequeno-almoço, com um serviço premium prestado por colaboradores muito atenciosos”
The décor was authentic to the period. The room could have been a bit larger.

Located in Rome's chic Aventino residential area, San Anselmo is a 19th-century villa with lush garden, offering elegant rooms with garden views of Sant’Anselmo Church. Air-conditioned rooms feature a TV, minibar, and marble bathroom with bath or shower. The hotel is a 10-minute walk from Circo Massimo and 10-minute walk from Piramide Metro, with San Saba Church 900 meters away.

The staff were friendly, the building was impressive, and the room design was striking. However, the room itself felt quite cramped.

The hotel looked nice, but the Economy Room was misleadingly advertised and the bathroom was disappointing. We booked the four‑star hotel because only one room was left – the so‑called “Economy Room.” The photos gave us a normal, suitable impression, yet the bathroom turned out to be a different reality. It was clearly designed as a wheelchair‑accessible or disability‑friendly space: the toilet was very high and spacious, and the shower was directly beside or even overlapping the toilet, so sitting on the toilet already placed us in the shower area and the toilet got wet while showering. The shower was barely visible in the photos, so we had no idea what it looked like. Additionally, the bathroom overall was very desolate and somewhat run‑down, which is unacceptable for a four‑star hotel. The room itself was also not convincing; it smelled moldy upon arrival, and both evenings until about midnight it was very noisy because chairs were being moved around frequently. This was especially disturbing at night and worsened the overall impression. We asked the reception for another room, and the staff were very friendly.

The location was excellent, just a short walk from Circo Massimo and in the historic Aventine area, right around the corner from the Keyhole. The hotel had a lot of character and charm. The staff were friendly enough. It seems to be on some top list of places for elderly Americans to stay. The air‑conditioning in the room wasn’t great. Breakfast was not as good as reviews claimed, just average for the price range. The garden had many mosquitoes. Our room was a “budget” room but surprisingly expensive and a bit disappointing after reading the reviews. Overall, the hotel felt slightly fading but still charming at the end of the season, not quite matching the expectations set by the reviews.

The bed and linens were very comfortable, and the hotel was in a lovely quiet neighbourhood in Rome that we enjoyed. The buffet breakfast was great – tasty and plentiful. The fluffy bathrobes were lovely. The shower was odd and very hard to use (an over‑complicated jacuzzi setup). They provided tiny bottles of shampoo and the like, which added to the inconvenience. There was one bath towel each, but the smaller towel you’d use for drying hands or hair was just a thin cotton tea‑towel style. So overall, the washing facilities were not ideal for a female guest with long hair.
