The balcony is great, but the beds in the less renovated rooms were very soft.

Hotel Fex feels like a gem, 5 km from town deep in the beautiful Fex Valley, and the setting was very relaxing after our stays in Italian towns; the staff were terrific, hiking straight from the hotel was challenging and rewarding, and dinner each night was excellent; the room was basic but very comfortable, so we totally enjoyed our stay. If it rains (which it didn’t during our stay) there isn’t much to do at the hotel and you might need to shuttle into Sils Maria.

The hotel’s half‑board policy left a lot to be desired. They call it a four‑course meal, but there were no salads or raw veggies, the risotto was soggy, and I never saw a vegetable soup. It’s a shame that a gorgeous place in a stunning valley has a chef who doesn’t consider healthy options when guests have no choice. At CHF200 a person, the room price already covers everything, so you’re stuck with the same menu.

The location is great, the welcome warm, the restaurant tasty, the place quiet, and the hikes are lovely. The only downside? You can’t drive straight to the hotel.
