The location is good but that’s about it. The place is damp, smelly and I came away coughing and scratching. Chest is still rattling 5 days later. Pictures look really good but do not relay how uncomfortable the place is. The property has little to no ventilation, unlike other Riads I’ve stayed in when in Essaouira. As a result, it’s very damp and and there are mold spores in the air. The room we had on the top floor, the studio, was supposed to be the best. The shower head was split and water just sprayed everywhere apart from down, the shower outlet took an age to drain and smelled really grim. The linen was damp and grubby feeling. The room feels very tired and unclean, and there was hardly any air flow. I had a bad throat for days after the one night we managed to stay there and my girlfriend who has asthma was really uncomfortable and so we knew the place was not healthy. A fan and coffee machine in the room is advertised and neither were present nor available when requested. Staff were rude and dismissive. Not welcoming at all and had no interest in rectifying the issues, only saying it’s basic, what do you expect. Messages went unanswered and the young boy on reception was absolutely disinterested and seemed to be sleeping on the couch in the lobby. The owner was very curt and rude. The water heater in the kitchen upstairs was venting fumes into the property and the ceiling is scorched above it as a result. A potential fire hazard for sure. I got an electric shock from the bedside socket when I unplugged my charger as the socket came out of the wall as not fitted properly. The mirror on the landing is smashed with shards of glass hanging out. Granted the place isn’t expensive but many other places I’ve stayed in Essaouira are and are clean, pleasant, safe and most of all, friendly and welcoming. We didn’t sleep a wink due to the humidity and damp spores in the air. I had to leave as it was detrimental to health. I’d suggest you try this for one night so you can appreciate other places in Essaouira as luckily, the alternative place for more or less the same price, was infinitely better and friendly
