The hostel’s location is great if you want to walk to the beaches, and the owner is very helpful, friendly and eager to assist. The hostel itself is very basic, and the kitchen and its equipment aren’t suitable for independent cooking. It’s generally hot and even the gnats seem comfortable here. :) If you’re looking for luxury you’re in the wrong place, but otherwise the hostel does its job. The owner is a big plus!

I enjoyed my stay; it’s a simple, homely hostel that lets you experience life in a local neighborhood. Stefano, the owner, was incredibly attentive, helpful, and kind, making me feel at home. The bed was comfortable, and the common lounge, kitchen, and balcony were great. It was hot, but the supplied fans worked well; mosquito repellent was needed if you’re prone to bites. A 10‑minute walk takes you to a local grocery store, a fruit & veg stall, and a taxi route for getting around. I highly recommend it for an affordable, down‑to‑earth stay in beautiful Portland.

I loved the single room. It was well equipped, had a nice wardrobe, and window nets to keep mosquitoes out. Direct access to the terrace made me feel very comfortable. The room was very clean. The host was helpful. I arrived late by bus in Port Antonio and he arranged a great taxi for an acceptable price. The area is easygoing, very quiet, and not far from the beach. The bathroom was good, but I missed a curtain on the upper window—adding a net there would help. Mosquitoes weren’t a problem, and the bathroom with a toilet was conveniently located next to the room.

Stefano is an excellent host—always available, quick and polite in replies, and proactive with guest information to ensure a smooth stay. The location is ideal for exploring nearby beaches (Winnifred and Boston are walkable) and the Fairy Hill neighborhood is quiet and safe. There’s plenty to do around, and locals are very friendly and watchful. The lady in the charming house opposite even handed me starfruit from her tree each morning, instantly making me feel part of the community. Porty is a modest but social hostel where you’ll make friends; we enjoyed hanging out on the balcony each night before heading to local bars and listening to the morning cockroaches. It’s a super peaceful and relaxing place to stay! The area is quite remote (which is great!), so my only suggestion is to bring cash and ensure you have water upon arrival. A nearby shop sells refill bottles for 150 JMD, but if it’s closed when you arrive you’ll be stuck.

Just a short walk from the beach, but the nearest spot reeks of cat urine, and every rule feels like it’s aimed at backpackers only.
