We spent a handful of nights at El Faro 13, and it turned out to be an absolutely fantastic place. The spot is unbeatable, rooms are spotless and fully equipped, and Luis the host is the absolute highlight—friendly, full of great activity tips, bus routes, even handing out a PDF with the schedule. We loved Puerto Viejo 100 % and would jump back to El Faro right away. Everything was perfect.

The place sits in a prime spot, just a stone's throw from the town centre, and the price is very reasonable. Don Luis is incredibly kind and always on hand; he replies fast to messages and keeps the communication flowing.

Luis the host is super friendly, the garden is spacious and you can even spot a sloth hanging close in a tree. Overall, a very good experience!

The location is central and safe, with easy access to all the main beaches a short ride away. The host was kind and the stay was budget‑friendly, though it would have been even better with an air conditioner.

I recommend this spot for solo female travelers; it’s a safe space located at the end of the safe street in Puerto Viejo, where the farm and forest continue. I arrived late in the evening and the owner greeted me personally, kept in touch, and helped with information. He waited for me, which was polite and reassuring after a late arrival in an unfamiliar city. He shared a lot about the area, Costa Rica, and nearby sights to explore on foot or by bike. The garden is secure and pleasant, quiet at night with no street, music, or pub noise. Mosquito nets were on every bed, which was great. The only suggestion is to add more hangers or a shelf in the bathroom for clothes, but overall it was nice.
