Location, scenery, friendliness. Everything was fine.

The surroundings of the hotel are wonderful and picturesque, the service is first‑class and the food delicious, though the pricing for the excursions offered by the hotel could be clearer.

La Kuka sits on Guachalito Beach, about a half‑hour boat ride from Nuquí, and they arranged a transfer from the airport. Our room was just a few steps from the sea, offering a breathtaking view, though the surf was loud enough that light sleepers might want earplugs (as on the propeller plane). Other rooms are set farther toward the jungle. The room felt spacious and airy, the bed came with a mosquito net, and the balcony had seating plus two hammocks. Meals are served in the main building, which has Wi‑Fi, at set times—breakfast at 8, lunch at 13, dinner at 19. Fish lovers will be pleased; both lunch and dinner feature fish with salad and sides, and everything tasted excellent. Coffee, tea and filtered water are available all day. They organize hikes to a rainforest waterfall and nearby hot springs, as well as canoe trips and other excursions. Outside the whale season the place is very quiet with few tourists.

The beach is right outside the room, nature is abundant, and the staff are friendly. Laura and Miguel are always ready to help with anything you need. When it rains hard, you might get a little wet in the room, but that’s part of the adventure.
