“Gutes Hotel mit Charme, aber in die Jahre gekommen”
The hotel has a great location right in the city, the lobby is nice and the staff are very friendly; however, a railway line runs behind the hotel and we slept on the 6th floor, so we heard the trains at night. The hotel itself is a bit dated but still has charm, and I wouldn’t necessarily call it a five‑star property.
“Very luxorious, you do everything for a nice experience but it still is an old building.”
I didn’t love the overall scent—old carpets in the mezzanine corridor, a lingering cigarette odor, and mold in the bathroom after a shower. On the bright side, the marble felt luxurious, the soap had a wonderful aroma, the feather pillows were great, and the mattress comfort was the best. The only downside was the tiny gym; it felt suffocating underground.
“Loved the Gold upgrade!”
We upgraded to the gold level after a sleepless night listening to the trains. Our Good room was phenomenal and so were the staff! The only downside was the train noise all night.
“Disappointing”
When we returned to the Fairmont after eight years, the changes were stark and not in a good way. The old‑time charm had been replaced by a generic, bar‑like space that feels unwelcoming for families. The buffet that used to wow us has been pared down to almost nothing, which was a major reason for our return. Breakfast at the restaurant was a la carte and bland, and I had a frustrating run with the waiters when I asked them to bring my tea bag so I could add water myself; they got it wrong twice and I ended up without tea. Overall, it felt far worse than my stay at the airport Marriott, and I was annoyed that no one was available in the lobby to talk to. Automation is fine for some things, but it becomes a huge annoyance when it replaces the personal touch a hotel should offer.
“Comfortable and amazing”
The staff were incredible.
