The bar closed at 9.30 on a Friday night. If you want toast for breakfast, make sure you ask for it! There wasn’t enough coffee at breakfast, and the shower was not really a shower—no hook, only a bath.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The place was quirky and old‑world with narrow staircases and low ceilings, as expected for a building of that age. My room was spacious with a four‑poster bed, but it had been set up for a wedding anniversary with a banner and petals on the bed, which made me giggle since it was only my birthday. The bathroom was a little tired but clean. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choices for cooked breakfast plus a small selection of cereals, pastries, and yoghurt. They also catered for other dietary needs if requested. We found a couple of pubs within walking distance where the locals welcomed us happily. The room was a bit hot even though there was no heating on, and we had to keep all of the windows open.

The environment was beautiful, the staff attentive, helpful, and polite, the food was of good standard, and it was very peaceful. They don’t sell southern comfort behind the bar, which is my favourite drink.

Nothing stood out positively – just a nice village location. The bathroom light didn’t work, so I had to shower in the dark. The bed felt more like a hammock. Service was generally poor: I went to the bar at 18:50 for a glass of wine before dinner, but no one was there to serve; I then went to reception, asked for service, and the person asked if I had a dinner reservation. I said “yes,” at 19:00. He responded that “you shouldn’t be late for dinner, so please go through,” so I forewent my glass of wine in the bar and went into the restaurant, which was an empty bar with two other diners. It was hard to make it up.
