The location is central and easy to walk around Portsmouth. Parking on-site was helpful. I was looking forward to returning to The Sailmakers, as I stayed there 6 years ago and loved it, BUT the room I got this time (Room 1) was right beside the front entrance and I believe there is a damp problem. It smelled musty, the sheets felt slightly damp, the thermostat on the wall read 71% humidity, and there was a humidifier, along with two mould spots on the wall. I arrived very late at night, and unfortunately the downside to this self-check-in property is that they are not available to reply 24 hours. So when I complained about this and asked to switch rooms, I didn't receive a reply. Even the next morning - no reply on WhatsApp! I was very disappointed with my second stay at this property and sadly cannot recommend it for a comfortable stay

The Sailmaker's House sits perfectly in the heart of Portsmouth’s remarkable cluster of historic houses and charming gardens, small and peaceful yet within walking distance of great coffee spots and cultural sites. Though the building dates back to the early 1800s and the hotel honors that heritage, the rooms are modern, sleek, and comfortable, and the shared spaces are inviting with thoughtful touches. A tiny gripe: we’d have liked a better spot for our dopp kit and toiletry bag—the glass shelf above the sink was a bit shallow even for a single kit.

The location is great, and I loved the lounge and the friendly staff, but the air conditioning is hard to adjust to the right temperature.

The rooms are clean and the historic architecture is very interesting. The staff are friendly and helpful with reservations and amenities. More outdoor seating would make the stay perfect.
