It’s hard to judge this hotel because it’s the dependency of the Hotel Gruner Baum. The building is pretty, but it doesn’t match the main hotel, where you have to go to use most services, except for the buffet breakfast, which I found plentiful and varied. I really liked the quiet setting, surrounded by greenery and very close to the historic centre. I also appreciated the Bozen Sudtirol Guest Pass, which is super convenient because it lets you ride all public transport (trains, buses, cable car, etc.) for free around the region and gives free entry to several attractions such as the Novacella Abbey (must‑see), the Diocesan Museum and the Pharmacy Museum. Apart from breakfast, all other services are offered at the Gruner Baum, including the reception and the restaurant, where I also dined very well. The Gasser hotel is retro‑styled and might not suit everyone. The bathrooms need renovation. The main lights in my room weren’t working, so I had to use a floor lamp and the bedside lamp. A maid tried to enter the room to clean without even knocking. Given all this, I feel the price is too high and the four stars are not fully justified (for the Gasser hotel, not the Gruner Baum). Also, I found the road sections without sidewalks that you have to walk from the bus stop to the Gasser hotel and from there to the Gruner Baum or the centre dangerous.
