I was allowed to bring my bike into the room, but the whole stay was a total disaster from start to finish. We were there for the Ötztaler Radmarathon, and I had always great experiences in Sölden before. Around 23 o’clock, just before the race, the hotel key stopped working. The reception was empty and no one answered the phone. After repeated knocking and calling, the owner arrived—she had a sharp dog that barked loudly at me and my partner. Her hostility was unlike anything I’ve seen in a hotel. When it turned out the fault wasn’t mine, no apology was offered. My pulse hit 200, and I couldn’t get any sleep before the race. At checkout I left a bike outfit behind; later I was emailed asking if they should send it or “dispose” of it. Sending it cost me 12 Euro. Given the night’s events, this was a huge disappointment.
