“Amazing location, lovely onsen, but the terrible food would prevent me ever going here again.”
The location was fantastic, the onsen excellent, and the room was generally nice (Japanese style, no chairs, bed on the floor); they kindly added a tiny desk and one chair for me to work on my laptop. Unfortunately, the staff spoke almost no English, especially at reception, so we had to rely on translator apps. Ski hire options were minimal for standard skis – only one slightly broken set in my partner’s 140‑145 cm size – and we were there in mid‑March when it was very quiet. I paid for executive skis, which were good but expensive. The sink tap in our room had only one temperature setting and no on/off control, just a motion‑sensor that barely worked, requiring a lot of hand waving for tiny water bursts. The worst part was the food: breakfasts and dinners were terrible. The menu was simple, which matched the price point, but the dining room felt like a dungeon; the bar area, which could have been a nicer dining space, was massive and empty. Food was consistently cold – we arrived at breakfast 10 minutes before the official start time, and all hot items were already cold. Even though there were tiny flames under some trays, they did nothing to keep the food warm; it must have sat there 20‑30 minutes before we could eat.
